In 1966, during the filming of the Sand Pebbles, a film crew documented the construction of the movie ship, the San Pablo. It also chronicled the production of the motion picture, featuring both staged and impromptu scenes. The end result was a 14 minute featurette titled "A Ship Called San Pablo" narrated by Richard Attenborough. The featurette also contains a small segment of the lost footage cut from the film after its roadshow engagement. The featurette was shot in 16mm and the Eastman film stock has lost much of its true color over the past 30+ years (as evidenced in the screen shots below). My thanks to Richard Ducar (Trenton, NJ) who was able obtain a tape copy from a private collector. I was able to convert the taped version to an .mpg file. This 118 MB file is no longer available for download due to space limitations. However, it is available on a loaner CD-ROM. Just email me for details by clicking here.
